I have two favorite books. Of course I do… such a complicated life I lead.
The first is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. It’s a great book. I have only read it once, but the view it’s written in drew me in right away and I feel in love with the journey the autistic boy was making to find out what happened to his neighbor’s dog one evening. I found a great summary here if you would like to learn more.
My second favorite is To Kill a Mockingbird. A lot of people have bad memories about this book because it was frequently shoved down the throats of 9th graders at the start of their year. I encourage you, though, if you haven’t read it since your angsty 9th-grade year, please give it a chance. It’s great, I promise.
As for things not related to the thirty days project, I am doing the shadowing portion of my internship tomorrow. I am spending the day at a local crime lab to gain exposure to how the evidence is handled (outside of what our crime lab teaches us in school). I will inform all of you of what I learn. I won’t say where I am going or any specifics, but I will outline anything interesting or exciting that happens in my day tomorrow.
I also got my 3rd dose of Gardasil tonight. That shot hurts like a mother… yowsers.

I love the curious incident of the night, it is faboulous!
Wow!! Crime lab work. I had no idea that’s what you were into. Cool!!
You are the third blogger I have heard speaking of To Kill A Mockingbird in the past month. I really don’t think I ever read it. It must’ve not been on our curriculum in Canada. Not that I remember, anyway.
And guess what, Julie? At this very moment I am in a LIBRARY — so… I think you and I both know what book I’ll be trying to check out today! hey — why not? Take a break from computer for a while!
xo
I’m really interested in reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it, but I think most of the bad ones were because they were forced to read it back in the day. I never had to read it because I wasn’t in AP English in high school and that was mainly the people that had to read it.
Good luck with the internship! Are you going into forensic science or something? Sorry, if you’ve already mentioned this and I missed it. It sounds really interesting.
I loved “To Kill A Mockingbird” even when I was a freshman. I liked the movie too, but I pictured people so differently when I was reading. I think that’s always the way when you read a book first though.
Good luck on your internship. It sounds like you’ll be seeing and learning some interesting things.
And Gardasil HURTS!!! The 3rd and 2nd shot hurt the most for me.
I’ve been very tempted to read To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s not something that we in Finland have had to read. We’ve read classic finnish books, and then some basic pieces of literary history such as Tolstoi, Dickens etc. One day I will get To Kill a Mockingbird. In english. I’m sure it would lose some of its charm in translation
I absolutely love To Kill A Mockingbird. Now, I probably wouldn’t have read the book if I didn’t have to but I it was amazing nonetheless. I also saw the movie which in a way, aided in creating a visual for me.
Hope you have fun at your shadowing.. =)
” A lot of people have bad memories about this book because it was frequently shoved down the throats of 9th graders at the start of their year. ”
*raises hand* that was me!
though I did like some of the books we read in school, this was not one of them. I don’t remember much about it, but I think it was depressing. But whatever, I don’t read, ever. I hate reading.
I wanted to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, but I never have. It was required reading for the regular English class last year, but I guess it didn’t fit the honors curriculum. D: I’ll pick it up on my own some day.
To Kill a Mockingbird was good. I don’t know if it’s one of my favorites, but I think it’s because I didn’t understand literature too well back in 8th grade. All that theme, motif, and symbol stuff went right through me. I had a breakthrough this year, though, so maybe I’ll try it again.
It’s so typical, but my favorite books are the Harry Potter books. If I had to pick more of a classic one, it would the The Tale of Two Cities.
Haha, I liked the movie for To Kill a Mockingbird. I’m not sure if I want to read it again… Haha.
Aww, have fun shadowing!!
My favorite book is A Confederacy of Dunces. Wow, it’s cool you get to go to a crime lab. I finished all 3 of my Gardasil a few weeks ago.
i’ve heard of such good things about ‘the curious incident…’ since the beginning of high school, and i still haven’t read it. i really have to remember to get it! and i never had to read ‘to kill a mockingbird’ for high school, and i should really get on that, too, if only to know what people are always complaining about, haha.
the internship sounds really cool, i can’t wait to hear about it – hopefully you don’t let us know that crime labs just make up all the evidence or something, heh.
(PS: i had never heard of hyperbole and a half, but i went there after you mentioned it. lol, i think i spent too much time reading it yesterday)
Ah, both of those books are absolutely fantastic! I fell in love with the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time when I first read it as well, heh. To Kill a Mockingbird is also a great classic! It’s been a while since I’ve read it though.. I should reread it, heh.
Good luck with your shadowing c: I hope it all goes well!
Hopefully you learn something new, and that you don’t have too bland a day!
I haven’t read To Kill A Mockingbird. It’s actually on my mental list of books to read, though. I have heard that it’s really good and I love classics, so there you go.
My favourite book is the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I like Bryce Courtenay’s books as well.
As for classics though, I like The Great Gatsby and Brave New World.
I’ve never heard of that first book, but I was one of those people who had to read To Kill A Mockingbird. To be honest, I don’t even remember what that book is about so I wouldn’t mind reading it again sometime.
I have never read those 2 books, but I would like to read “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Maybe tomorrow, I’ll check it out at my local library.
Have fun at the crime lab
.
Oh and this is non-post related, but I notice that you were in Pittsburgh and when are you leaving the city? It would be nice if we can meet up for lunch
Take care and have a great night
.
OOOoooh the Curious Incident — I started reading that 2 years ago, but never finished. I liked it too…i stopped reading b/c i got the Kindle and then never ready anything in paper form. You reminded me, now I gotta finish that one!!
Never read To Kill — was required reading in HS, but I only read the back. Maybe I should read it just so I can understand what people talk about when they mention or refer to it
Sorry about the gardasil shot — never had to get it, maybe b/c i’m 30 and old.
I want to read To Kill a Mockingbird BEFORE they shove it down my throat in 9th grade
. So maybe the next time I go to Borders I will pick it up off the shelf! I hope it’s as good as you say it is!
Crime lab? Oo
. Sounds cool, lol.
RE:
.
I have never seen Austin Powers, so I have no idea what you’re talking about xD. BUT, I do agree that the cat is quite disturbing…
