About Your Host…
My name is Julie. Julie is more of an online nickname; actually, my real name is a bit longer. I don’t go by Julie offline, mainly because when people ask me if there is anything else I want to be called I always forget. I was born on April 1st, 1987. Yes, it’s April Fool’s Day. Trust me though – it’s not as fun of a holiday when it’s your birthday. The song that was #1 on that day was “Lean on Me” by Club Neau… I think that explains my awful taste in music.
I started my life in Northwest Pennsylvania. When I went to college I only moved about an hour away. It wasn’t for any particular reason, the school just met all of my needs and happened to be close. It was a real bonus for me. Once I decided I was going to go to graduate school I started looking for programs everywhere. That search took me to Richmond, Virgina. I hated this place when we first moved here, but it’s growing on me. We’re going to be moving out of the city and into the West End in July, and I’m so excited to be out in more of a home type place instead of a cramped, down-town constant party. I’m pretty good at making friends, so I’ve never really felt like I wasn’t at home anywhere I’ve lived. That could also have something to do with how much I hated my living situation at home. My family is… interesting. (Well, my nuclear family anyway.) I have always felt like I don’t really belong there. As I’ve moved away, I see why. But I try not to dwell on that anymore and have really learned to accept the situations and establish my own identity among the chaos at home.
I love science and the law. I’m so passionate about both. It explains my majors in forensic science. I’ve been thinking about going to law school after I get my M.S., but we’ll see how that goes. I’m kind of ready to be done with school and to settle down. I’m still young though – so I also feel like I want to just go for it while I still can. *Shrug* We’ll see what happens.
As I mentioned, my grad school choice took me to Richmond. When I moved here, I was lucky enough not to have moved alone. My boyfriend, Ryan, got into the same school as I did and we were able to make the journey together. We’ve been together since we were fetuses 8 years. I love him so much. Hopefully he will say the same if you ask him. He should be showing me that he likes it and putting a ring on it soon, so I will keep you posted. I sure do harass him enough about it…
Oh yeah, we have two kiddos named Turk and JD. They’re turtles and kind of dumb, but hey what can you do.
Through my short life I’ve learned to love and accept myself and I’m at a point where I couldn’t really be happier. Hopefully I can take some of you with me on the journey that will be my life via this blog. Enjoy the ride, folks.
